Great course and it really helped my understand composition. I really like the combination of courses explaining concepts in manageable bites and also the course where the teacher goes out in the field and we see how he uses these concepts

The examples shown were really good. There are a lot of topics that seem really quick and easy but there's really no expanding on them other than trying to take the photo yourself. Many things were covered and a lot of tips were given! Really enjoyed the course.

Experience as Photographer

Starting at the age of 16, I never stopped learning new lighting techniques, shooting styles, editing techniques, and ways to approach composition in a scene.

Early in my photography journey, I was what you would have considered an "Instagram photographer." I would post mostly headshots and portraits of my friends and models in my local area and they would get thousands of likes. I quickly grew a following on Instagram, but I found that instead of photographing for myself, I was photographing for the likes and the comments.

Instead of taking pictures of scenes I wanted to capture, I would try to just top my previous post in terms of likes, comments, and new followers with similar razor-sharp headshots and portraits with an editing style that was "cool" at the time. With this mindset, I fell out of love with photography.

After taking a step back from photography and social media, I needed to learn to enjoy photography for myself once again. I spent this time to further understand the finer details and art of photography from exposure, focusing, composition, editing, gear, and analysis.

The more I learned about photography by studying photographs and learning about both the technical and artistic aspects of photography, the more I learned that I knew nothing about photography. That realization alone allowed me to fall back in love with photography.

That saying, "the more I know, the more I realize I know nothing," applied to me and allowed me to fall in love with the journey of photography once again. Instead of just focusing on the final image, I learned to have a deep appreciation for the process that takes place before, during, and after pressing the shutter button.

Now, with a new approach to photography, I am currently a part-time professional portrait and headshot photographer for clients in my local area. I am also a photography author and I write/have written for top photography publications such as Photofocus, SLRLounge, and Fstoppers - with over 1,000,000+ people having read my articles.

Experience as Instructor

As a self-taught professional photographer, I understand the struggles behind learning about both the technical and artistic aspects of photography. There is a lot of jargon and acronyms in the photography world that can make it very confusing for a beginner to know where to even begin.

My background and experience as a self-taught professional photographer allows me to simplify these topics into ways that make it more digestible and easier to understand without diluting the quality of information.

My track record of 1,000,000+ views of my articles both on Imaginated and other top photography publications, as well as my YouTube videos, with my "Composition Tips in 30 Minutes," being one of the top composition videos on YouTube, is the best proof for that.

And like with any art, photography is partly subjective, where a "compositionally sound" image can look just "alright" to somebody, but amazing to somebody else. This can bring about very harsh critics when posting some of your photos online that could quickly discourage you from taking more photographs.

The goal with all my educational photography content is to inspire you to go out and photograph. As mentioned earlier, photography is an art and there are not right or wrongs. Yes, there are certain "rules" to follow on a technical aspect that are good guidelines, but rules are meant to be broken! As long as you are taking photographs of things you enjoy, you are learning something new each time, and are having fun, then you're photographing correctly!
